Statement on behalf of the Norfolk and Waveney health and care system
“We have greatly valued our involvement in the CQC urgent and emergency care system review and were encouraged to see the CQC’s findings that many of our local services are providing good, safe care and effective treatment.
“The CQC also highlights new innovations and examples of good practice being trialled in Norfolk and Waveney at the time of the inspection such as the setting up of a pilot Care Hotel as a short-term stepdown facility for people fit enough to be discharged from hospital but still needing some care and treatment and establishing GP provision alongside urgent and emergency care at hospitals, meaning people could be referred accordingly.
“The CQC’s review took place against the backdrop of considerable and on-going pressures within urgent and emergency care that were being experienced both locally and nationally, resulting from seasonal pressures, the COVID-19 pandemic, and workforce challenges.
“Our priority is ensuring that patients have access to safe and high-quality services wherever they live, and we welcome the opportunity to make improvements to how we approach these challenges as an Integrated Care System to help ensure services meet local people’s needs.
“Norfolk and Waveney health and care partners are working closely in partnership to ensure further improvements are made. By working collaboratively as a health and care system we can ensure that local people and communities can receive sustainable, high-quality, safe and effective urgent and emergency care services at the right time and in the right place and every patient’s care journey is as smooth as possible.”
