National support for Social Care Workforce
The Action plan for Social Care Workforce published on Gov.UK recently describes the intention to have a similar offer of health and wellbeing support for Social Care
workforce to that for the NHS. They are therefore extending the package of support that is available to the NHS so that those working in the social care sector can benefit.
Social care workers will have access to a dedicated website, developed in partnership with the NHS. It will contain a range of resources to help individuals and their teams
manage in this new situation, understand what they might need to be doing differently to support each other and pay attention to their mental and physical wellbeing. Skills for
Care is also creating a package of support for registered managers, recognising that they are facing particular challenges.
We will update this website with further information and resources as soon as they are available.
Shout has already launched a text messaging support service. Social care staff can send a message with ‘FRONTLINE’ to 85258 to start a conversation. This service is free
on all major mobile networks and is a place to go for support if you are struggling to cope and you need help. However, we know this is not enough.

Mindfulness
Mindfullness Micro Session
Jarrold Training have put together a mindfullness micro session on how to manage your mindset during these extraordinary times. Learn how to stop worrying and start living in the moment. Click here to access the mirco session.
Six Steps to Mindfulness
- Connect to your senses to bring you into the moment – notice what you can see, hear, smell and feel.
- Take three mindful breaths, focusing on how it feels when you breathe in and out deeply.
- Be aware of your body, how it feels and any movements you’re making.
- Notice the emotions you’re feeling. Pause to name them, without judging or criticising yourself.
- Notice the type of thoughts in your mind, rather than specific thoughts. Name the types – are they memories, worries, past conversations or future plans?
- Find somewhere to sit or stand to do a three-step breathing practice
- Awareness: notice how your body feels and what you’re thinking.
- Your breath: become aware of which parts of your body move when you breathe in and out and how this feels.
- Expanding: breathe deeply so it feels like each breath fills your whole body.

Guide to setting-up a Wellbeing Room
What is a Wellbeing Room?
It is a place where staff can go when feeling angry, sad, frustrated, scared, overwhelmed, tearful – these are all normal reactions to a very abnormal situation we find ourselves in. It is a place to be able to share worries, take five, say it out loud, have a little cry/shout/scream or just sit quietly.
It doesn’t need to be a big space; just a room which has a couple of chairs which can be used at any time without needing to book the room. These are extraordinary times and we all need to have space for a little ‘wobble’ every now and again.
